To find that water leak we first locate the pipe by using a transformer with a locator device.  We must first make a closed or open circuit. 

Once we have a circuit, we can use our Rigid Scout Locator device which the plumbing technicain in this picture above is using to map the layout of the pipe.

Next we fill the line with compressed air, and by using the electronic listening device which the plumbing technician in this picture above is using in the pictures, we can hear the leaking air through the hole of the pipe, and identify approximately where leak is located. 

Keep in mind Just because you have a water rising out of the ground doesn't mean the leak is in that exact location.  Water will always take the least resistance.  Water will travel inside the trench of the pipe until it finds soft soil and then rise up.  A leak could be 5 feet or more away.  This is typical.
